An Actor and Playwright Come Together in Brooklyn
New York residents from all five boroughs can come see The King, The Final Hours when it hits the Off-Broadway stage in October.
The Off-Broadway production does, however, carry significant influence from one specific borough: Brooklyn.
The Off-Broadway jukebox musical’s influence can be traced back to the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bed-Stuy, where both playwright Mark Macias and The King, The Final Hours’ leading actor Brett Bullard reside.
Macias, originally from Phoenix, first wrote The King, The Final Hours as an Off-Broadway adaptation in his historic brownstone home in Bed-Stuy.
Bullard, who grew up with the same Memphis roots as the King himself, also lives in Bed-Stuy and combines his Broadway acting influence with his Brooklyn digs.
The playwright and actor, recognizing their common Bed-Stuy ties, joined forces on The King, The Final Hours. Their close proximity to each other in the neighborhood, Macias says, allows for intimate collaboration and focused production of the production on The King, The Final Hours.
